The method can be used in a fluorine concentration range of 1 μg to 0,01 g per gram of sample. Contamination levels of up to 300 μg boron and 3000 μg silicon, aluminum and iron can be tolerated in the final measured solution.

Zirconium interferes severely and should not. The applicability of the method to samples containing significant levels of impurities can be confirmed by changing the basic procedure.

A weighed Portion of the Laboratory Sample is dissolved in uranium metal or uranium dioxide in nitric acid in a sealed polyethylene bottle to prevent loss of hydrogen fluoride. The nitric acid used is dosed with a known amount of fluoride to give a blank concentration higher than the lowest linear response concentration of the fluoride electrode, ensuring that all subsequent measurements take place within the linear response range of the electrode.
