Ultrasonic inspection methods in this standard are applicable to detecting defects in forged metals and forged metal products with a section thickness of 0.250 inches or more. Round bar and billet, AMS-STD-2154 For billet larger than 4,5 inches, can use AMS2628 techniques and equipment.
Forged metals include forging stock, forged parts, rolled billet or plate, rolled or rolled bars, rolled or rolled shapes, and parts made from them. The application of the methods in this standard is not intended for non-metals, welds, castings or sandwich structures.
