The EN 1621-1 standard, which is a European standard, describes the properties and test methods of leg joint protective equipment, which is one of the protective clothing of motorcyclists against mechanical impact. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 1621-1 Protective clothing against mechanical impact for motorcycle riders - Part 1: Knee impact protectors for motorcycle riders - Properties and test methods.

This EN 1621-1 test is used to evaluate the protective properties of the armor that motorcycle users wear on their arm and leg joints. Two performance levels are specified for motorcyclists' limb protectors (arm and leg joint protectors): level 1 and level 2.

The lower the transmission power of a protector, the more protective a piece of equipment is considered. To pass the standard, the maximum transmitted force should be below 35kN and no value above 50kN.

The standard also includes optional impact tests to evaluate performance in 40 degrees high and minus 10 degrees low temperature environments. It also includes some additional tests after storage under humid conditions.

According to the standard, the following body areas are designated as impact areas: shoulder, elbow and forearm, hip, knee, tibia, shinbone and front of the leg.
