Protection of Boots, Ankle and Kaval against Impact Energy (EN 13634)

The EN 13634 standard, which is a European standard, describes the protection features and test methods of the ankle and shin of boots, which are protective equipment for motorcycle riders, against impact energy. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 13634 Protective shoes for motorcycle users - Features and test methods.

Protection of Boots, Ankle and Kaval against Impact Energy (EN 13634)

A number of requirements meet the general shoe design for motorcycle riders. These requirements include the assessment of properties such as the height of the upper part and the shape of the seam structures. A number of tests are needed to measure the bond strength between the upper and the outer sole and to evaluate the integrity of the protective shoe.

Tests on bot components are equally important. During these tests, the upper, lining and insole components of the boots are considered, and the chromium VI content of the leather material used, pH value, tear resistance for the lining and abrasion resistance tests are included. All materials used in the production of the boots are also evaluated for water resistance.

The EN 13634 standard covers the protective shoes used in motorcycle riding both on flat roads and off road. The main requirements of this standard are: protection, ergonomic properties, non-damage, mechanical properties, marking and information.

The personal protective equipment directive published in the European Union countries requires that any clothing or personal equipment to be offered to consumers must comply with the relevant European standard. Proof of conformance is test results to be carried out in impartial and independent laboratories. In this way, CE mark is placed on the equipment. For example, boots should be certified as EN 13634, jackets and trousers as EN 13595, and impact protectors as EN 1621.

Within the framework of motorcyclist protection equipment testing services, our organization also provides testing services for the protection of boots, ankle and shin against impact energy (EN 13634).
