X-ray computed tomography scan or X-ray CT scan has proven to be a very powerful tool in the field of non-destructive testing. EUROLAB laboratories are capable of obtaining highly detailed 3D images of materials and internal components of products, thereby eliminating the need for costly and time consuming destructive inspection.

We use one of the most powerful, high-resolution X-ray CT systems used today. A large 450kV microfocus system enables large objects (up to 37 inches in diameter) to be viewed in extremely high resolution. This system, coupled with other X-ray features and state-of-the-art processing and visualization tools, allows this technology to solve numerous problems involving many different industries.

Industrial X-ray CT scan starts with acquiring multiple X-ray projection images full or partial 360 degrees around an object, just like a medical CAT scan. These projection images are then reconstructed into a full 3D volumetric dataset. Unlike the medical CAT scan, there is no human patient exposed in the industrial X-ray CT scanner, so higher radiation levels are used, which are still good to the test sample, allowing penetration from denser materials and allowing higher resolution data than typical medicals. This 3D volumetric dataset contains information from all areas of the object, including hidden or internal properties and surfaces. The data can then be queried and divided into sections for visual and analytical evaluation of the test object. Analytical data can include both dimensional (CAD data) and material information (density and void content). Additional tools are constantly being developed and implemented by EUROLAB that allow more specific analysis, including FEA network integration for fiber routing characterization and computational material analysis for fabrics and composite materials.
