AMS 1428-1 Test for Aerodynamic Acceptance of Aircraft De-icer, Anti-Icing Fluids

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of AMS 1428-1 testing. This standard specifies aerodynamic flow requirements and test procedures for AMS1424 Type I and AMS1428 Type II, III and IV fluids used to defrost or prevent aircraft.

The purpose of this standard is to provide acceptable aerodynamic properties of de-icing-anti-icing fluids as they flow from aircraft lift and control surfaces during take-off ground acceleration and climb.

The aerodynamic acceptance of an aircraft ground de-icing-anti-icing fluid is based on the boundary layer displacement thickness (BLDT) of the fluid on a flat plate, measured after experiencing the free-flow velocity time history of a representative aircraft take-off.

The acceptability of the fluid is determined by comparing the BLDT measurements of the candidate fluid with a data generated from a reference fluid BLDT and BLDT values on a dry (clean) test plate.

The test is performed in the temperature range where the undiluted and diluted liquid will be used in airline service.
