ETSO-C26d Aircraft Wheels and Wheel Brake Kits (CS-23, CS-27 and CS-29 Aircraft)

One of the most common and serious types of failures experienced with aircraft wheels is fatigue related failures with wheels and wheel brake assemblies. Therefore, wheel standards are revised to increase the overall strength of the wheels and reduce their susceptibility to fatigue. These changes require more rigorous testing of the wheels and wheel brake assemblies to verify the load ratings of the wheels and the kinetic energy capacity rating of the brakes.

Aircraft wheels are an essential component of a landing gear system. These wheels, with the tires mounted on them, carry the entire weight of the aircraft during taxi, takeoff and landing. Because aircraft tires are developed for their intended use, they are made harder to better absorb the landing forces without bursting or separating from the rim.

Some common brake system components for large aircraft include: electric brake metering valves, slave brake metering valves, isolating valves, selector valves, anti-rotation actuators, anti-slip valves, hydraulic fuses, shuttle valves, accumulators, rotary joints, and pressure transducers.

Developed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) under the European Technical Standard Order (ETSO), the ETSO-C26d standard covers the following aircraft types:

  • CS-23 Normal, general, aerobatic and commuter aircraft
  • CS-27 Small rotary-wing aircraft
  • CS-29 Large rotary-wing aircraft

This standard includes the following principles added to the previously published ETSO-C26c standard:
Tire suitable for brake tests. This tire is the nominal tire type and size. This tire is the tire type and size determined to be the most critical for braking performance and energy absorption tests. This tire must be an approved tire type and size for wheel mounting. The suitable tire may be different for different tests.
Fire protection. Except for small parts such as fasteners, gaskets, washers and small electrical parts that do not significantly contribute to the spread of a fire, all solid materials used must meet the flammability rules applicable to the part and category of the aircraft.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the scope of ETSO-C26d standard, C26d aircraft wheels and wheel brake kits (CS-23, CS-27). and CS-29 aircraft) also provides testing services.
