Light Weapons Tests

The term small arms includes pistols, rifles, submachine guns and assault rifles. Small arms are all small caliber weapons designed for use by crew members, all smaller than 100 mm. This group includes heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, mortars, anti-aircraft guns and anti-tank guns.

In general, small arms are crew-operated kinetic firearms, incendiary devices, or infantry-portable weapons that fire explosive ordnance.

Test procedures apply only to basic weapons, other test procedures procedures have been published for testing ammunition, fire control devices, muzzle-loading ammunition, and similar material.
