The protection V50 ballistic limit is defined as the average of 6 fair impact speeds, including the three lowest speeds resulting in full penetration and the three highest speeds resulting in partial penetration.
A maximum span of 150 feet per second shall be allowed between the lowest and highest speeds used in setting ballistic limits. Only where the lowest full penetration rate is more than 150 fps less than the highest parital penetration rate will the ballistic limit be based on 10 velocities (the lowest 5 velocities resulting in full penetration and the highest 5 velocities resulting in it).
10 rounds of overdispersion, when using the ballistic limit, the velocity spread will be reduced to the lowest particle level (as close to 150fps as possible). When a 10-round ballistic limit is used, this will be stated in all reports. Normal up and down firing method will be used to determine all BL(P)s, all velocities will be corrected for impact rate.
If the calculated ballistic limit is 30 fps above the required minimum and there is a gap of 30 fps or more (high partial penetration rate below low full penetration rate), firing will continue as necessary to reduce this gap.
This procedure will provide better evaluation of the steel when the ballistic limit is close to the minimum required. Normal up and down firing method will be used to determine all BL(P)s, all velocities will be corrected for impact rate.
