These barrier materials are intended to be used to manufacture enclosures for electrostatically or electromagnetically sensitive equipment and components. These barrier materials are specifically formulated to prevent build-up or retention of electrostatic potential and to protect electronic components.
Type I barrier material is designed for water vapor resistant, electrostatic and electromagnetic protection of microcircuits, certain semiconductor devices (such as microwave diodes and field-effect transistors, precision resistors, and other miniature electronics requiring this protection).
Type II barrier material is designed for use where transparency and static dissipation are required and contact with oil or grease is not anticipated. The clear material is also designed for level C packaging use where a waterproof, static dissipating barrier is required. For A level requirement its use is limited to inner wraps or bags.
Type III barrier material is designed for use where a transparent, waterproof, electrostatic shielding and electrostatic field shielding barrier is required. Provides enhanced EMI and electrostatic shielding protection when specified for use with Type I material. This material is also designed for C-level packaging. However, when level A packaging is required, its use is limited to inner packaging or bags.
A class definition has been created to distinguish between curling and non-curling materials. Class 1 material has unlimited uses and is suitable for bag production with manual closing methods or automatic bag making machines. Class 2 material is only suitable for bag production on automatic bag making machines.
