MIL-C-26482 Military Specifications: Connectors, Electrical, (Circular, Miniature, Quick Disconnect, Environmentally Resistant), Sockets and Plugs

MIL-C-26482, a United States military defense standard, describes general requirements for two sets of media resistive, quick disconnect, miniature, circular electrical connectors and accessories. Each series contains hermetic sockets. When using power contacts, the two sets of connectors are interlocked and cannot be connected together when using shielded contacts. When terminated, the minimum performance requirement for series 1 connectors is met.

The connectors are defined as series 1 or series 2 and are designed to provide contact protection during mating:

• Series 1 connectors are removable contacts (125 degrees) with bayonet coupling, solder or pre-release crimp. Hermetic contacts also fall into this class.
• Series 2 connector, bayonet coupling, rear release are crimp removable contacts (200 degrees). Also included in this class are hermetic connectors, non-removable solder-type contacts or croup removable terminations.

Unless otherwise stated, a military standard (MS) part numbering system is defined for qualified connectors supplied in accordance with this standard. For series 1 connectors supplied in accordance with this specification, the military part number must conform to this designation.

Series 1 connectors are rated for specified operation in the temperature range of minus 55 to plus 125 degrees. The overhead temperature is the maximum internal hotspot temperature resulting from any combination of electrical load and ambient temperature.

Series 2 connectors can operate as specified in the temperature range of minus 55 degrees to plus 200 degrees under any electrical load and ambient temperature coating. These connectors are rated for one thousand hours of specified operation at a maximum internal hotspot temperature of 200 degrees.

The cable spacing will be compatible with series 1 and series 2 connectors as specified in Table II within the standard.
