If the molding process is used, the material will be molded into the desired configuration without breaking or damaging the material. These procedures and methods should be able to provide uniform properties in the completed structure.
If a piece cover is used, then the part cover will be in a configuration to cover the entire exterior surface. The edge strip should be cut to wrap the entire perimeter of the composite armor and extend beyond the 0,50-0,75 inch (12,7-19,0 mm) inner edges. Edges must not fray before applying to composite armor.
The light composite armor covered by this specification is military-specific as it is used in applications such as tactical shelters and appliqué armor for light vehicles when military personnel body armor, aircraft armor, and resistance to armor-piercing projectiles and limited multi-strike capability are required.
