MIL PRF 680 Performance Characteristics: Degreasing Solvent Test

All products under the MIL PRF 680 specification are used in equipment maintenance as a degreaser and cleaner for painted and unpainted metal surfaces, and for degreasing machine parts.

TYPE II (high flash point solvent with low odor) is designed for use where a solvent with a higher flash point is desired. Recommended instead of Type I for safety and regulatory reasons.

It is non-flammable and non-explosive under normal operating conditions. Since the process is carried out at the boiling temperature of the solvent, it should have no flash point or explosive mixture with air at this temperature.

Low latent heat of vaporization and low specific heat so that the maximum amount of solvent is concentrated on a given metal weight and keeps heat requirements to a minimum. In addition to heating the workload to the temperature of the steam, most of the heat is used to continuously distill the solvent to provide clean solvent for spraying or rinsing.
