MIL STD 1312-8 Fastener Test Methods, Method 8: Standard Method for Tensile Strength

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of MIL STD 1312-8 testing. This method covers a procedure for testing any structural fastener under tension at room temperature. This procedure aims to identify the test required to determine the tensile strength of the fastener itself, not the strength of the fastener in any plate combination.

MIL STD 1312-8 Fastener Test Methods, Method 8: Standard Method for Tensile Strength

This test method, defined by MIL-STD-1312-8, was originally designed for use in determining the tensile strength of fasteners. However, its use has expanded to include tensile strength, i.e. the strength of the plates held together by the fastener.

The test specimen consists of two 1.5 square plates attached at their centers with the desired fastener being tested. The fixture has two pins and indexing holes to ensure proper rotational alignment of the two halves.

The bottom half of the fixture contacts the four corners of the top plate, and the top half of the fixture touches the four corners of the bottom plate. When a clamping force is applied to the mounted fixture, the fastener is tension loaded. The force required to force the fastener to pass through a plate is the desired result.
