MIL STD 1553B Military Standard - Aircraft Internal Time Division Command-Response Multiple Bus Standard

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of MIL STD 1553B testing. The MIL STD 1553B standard specifies requirements for digital, command and response, time division multiplexing techniques in aircraft. It covers the bus line interface electronics and also defines the concept of operation and information flow in the multiplex bus and the electrical and functional formats to be used.

Although the standard in question is mainly applied to space shuttle, space stations and satellites, it is this standard that is applied to the most equipment and has the widest coverage area in the military field. This standard is used in large transport ships, submarines, refueling aircraft, bombers, tactical combat aircraft and helicopters. It is even applied to missiles and in some cases acts as the main interface between aircraft and missile. The US navy applies this standard on both surface and submarine ships.

All criteria specified in the MIL STD 1553B standard are valid for the environmental conditions required for the operation of the multi-bus system. Because environmental conditions vary so much, this standard does not specify all conditions. Therefore, the system designer has to determine the environmental conditions applied to the omnidirectional digital communication bus system based on suitable tools or system features.

Briefly, MLT STD 1553B is a standard that determines the mechanical, electrical and functional properties of the serial communication protocol published by the US Department of Defense. It was designed in 1973 for military avionics (for aircraft, artificial satellites and spacecraft electronic systems) and was first used on an F16. Data communication between the systems on these aircraft is provided in this way. Shortly after, it started to be used in civil aviation as well.
