It serves as a general guide for the selection of materials, procedures and system suitable for cleaning, coating, painting and other finishing of metal and wood surfaces.
Unless otherwise stated, the responsibility for choosing the cleaning method (if necessary), surface treatment, metal coating, paint system or other finish should rest with the activity responsible for the final item.
In case of conflict between the requirements of this standard and those of the specifications in the drawings, the requirements in the drawings should be preferred first, followed by those of the specifications and those of this standard last.
All materials used shall comply with the requirements of applicable specifications. Types, grades, grades, etc. will be specified in the parts drawing by the purchasing activity. Materials may be subjected to tests of the relevant specification at any time, as the procurement activity will dictate to determine compliance with the applicable specification.
Unpainted parts of cadmium or zinc-based alloys, or metal parts coated with cadmium or zinc, should not be used in unventilated assemblies where formic/acetic acid or other organic vapors from insulating varnishes, encapsulating compounds, or uncured plastic material may come into contact with them. Cadmium and zinc or coatings of these metals shall not be used where parts are in contact with acids, unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine, ammonia or their vapors.
