This TOP contains a compilation of procedures for testing hand and shoulder weapons and machine guns, including crew-operated guns and light automatic cannons up to 50 millimeters in caliber.

Test procedures are to help standardize testing and the development of detailed test plans (DTPs), test and evaluation master plans (TEMPs), and similar planning documents. This TOP does not constitute a requirement for performing any of the specific tests and does not serve to set performance or safety criteria for military equipment. Actual requirements and criteria can be found from requirement documents, contractual obligations, Army Regulations (ARs) etc. should come.
Because requirements for the accuracy and precision of a given measurement may differ between procedures, additional information is included in separate test procedures. The standard hardware common to most technical organizations is not listed; however, the tester must ensure that the specific requirements of each procedure are met by the equipment or instrumentation used.
