CEN TS 15370-1 Solid Biofuels - Test for Characteristic Temperatures Method

EUROLAB, together with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of CEN TS 15370-1 test. This standard specifies a method for determining the characteristic temperatures for the ash melting behavior of solid biofuels.

CEN TS 15370-1 Solid Biofuels - Test for Characteristic Temperatures Method

Ash melting is a complex process in which sintering, shrinkage and swelling can also occur.

The test method is empirical. The ash used for the test is a homogeneous material prepared from fuel and its determination is carried out in a controlled atmosphere at a controlled heating rate. In contrast, under full-scale conditions, complex combustion and fusion processes involve heterogeneous mixtures of particles, variable heating rates, and gas compositions.

The characteristic temperatures determined in the test can be used to compare the tendency of ash from different types and qualities of solid biofuels to form molten sediment or cause bed agglomeration on heating.

Half the height of the test piece is defined because of the bubbling effects that often occur. This is especially important for automatic image evaluation. Note that this definition differs from other standards.
