It is intended to be used for general analysis samples according to CEN TS 14780. The method described in this standard is applicable to all solid biofuels.
The term moisture content can be misleading when used with biomass materials because untreated biomass often contains varying amounts of volatile compounds (extracts) that can evaporate when determining the moisture content of the overall analysis sample by oven drying.
Because small particle size biofuels are very hygroscopic, their moisture content will change with changes in atmospheric humidity and therefore the moisture of the analysis sample should always be determined simultaneously when weighing portions for other analytical determinations, eg calorific value, carbon.
