ISO 6617 Petroleum-Based Lubricating Oils Standard Test for Determination of Change in Conradson Carbon Residue After Oxidation

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 6617 standard. This standard specifies a procedure for the determination of aging properties of petroleum-based lubricating oils. Applies to oils with evaporation loss of less than 15% by mass.

The oil sample to be tested is aged for two 200 hour periods at 6°C while air is passed through the oil. The value of the Conradson carbon residue of the aged sample is determined according to IS0 6615.

The Conradson carbon residue of the uncured oil, also determined according to IS0 6615, is subtracted from this value. As a result, an increase in the value of the carbon residue of the aged oil relative to the aged oil is reported.

Under no circumstances may the procedure specified in IS0 6615 be changed or replaced by any other procedure.

The tester, consisting of an aging cup and a holder with air inlet tube and air outlet tube, all parts are made of borosilicate glass according to IS0 3585.
