ISO 6743-5 Lubricants - Industrial Lubricants - Family T Test

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 6743-5 testing. ISO 6743-5 specifies the detailed classification of T family fluids (Turbines) belonging to class L (Lubricants, industrial oils and related products).

ISO 6743-5 Lubricants - Industrial Lubricants - Family T Test

Recent advances in electricity generation through the use of more powerful gas turbines and single shaft combined cycle gas turbines have made it necessary to update the classification of fluids for turbines. In addition, regulations in some countries require the use of environmentally acceptable lubricants for the lubrication of hydro turbines.

The new classification includes:

  • New types of gas turbine oils, including synthetic products;
  • New types of oils for single shaft combined cycle gas turbines (ie turbines where the same oil lubricates both gas and steam turbines);
  • New types of synthetic oils for land-applied aircraft turbines;
  • Detailed classification for hydro turbines, including environmentally acceptable products.

This classification excludes products for aircraft turbines. However, some aircraft turbines may find land application for electricity generation. It is recommended to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the lubrication of such turbines. Depending on the service, TGA, TGB, TGCH, TGCE or more specialized aircraft turbine oils may be used.

These categories include:

  • TA: Mineral oil-based turbine oils;
  • TB: Synthetic turbine oils;
  • TC: Fire resistant turbine oils;
  • TD: Environmentally acceptable turbine oils;
  • TE: Gas turbine engine oils;
  • T-LT: Turbine oils for low temperature applications.

Each of these categories is further subdivided based on specific properties such as viscosity, oxidation stability and performance characteristics. The classification system provides manufacturers and users with a standardized way to communicate information about turbine oil, including its intended use and performance characteristics.

By using ISO 6743-5, manufacturers and users can be assured that they are using the appropriate turbine oil for their specific application, which can help extend the life of turbine components and reduce maintenance costs. It also helps improve safety and performance by providing standardized information on turbine oil's intended use and performance characteristics.
