TS 6830 Petroleum Products and Oils - Petroleum Based Oils and Other Preservatives - Determination of Rust Prevention Settlement in the Presence of Water

This standard covers the method of water protection rust prevention regulation of steam turbine, hydraulic system, circulation system and water-intensive lubricating oils with added rust inhibitor additives.

This test method is used to evaluate the acid ability of inhibited minerals (oils, especially steam turbine oils) to prevent corrosion of ferrous parts if water mixes with the oil. This test method is also used to test other oils; such as hydraulic oils and circulation oils.

The method is for application to hindered oils, including steam turbine oils, circulation oils, and hydraulic oils, and non-hydrocarbon fluids, including fluids denser than water.

The method is applicable to paraffinic diesel fuels, including distilled fuels, fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) and mixtures thereof, intended for use in diesel engines and domestic heating installations, as well as those containing flow improvers or other additives.

The method can be applied to other products such as vegetable oils or lubricants, but such products have not been evaluated during the interlaboratory study (ILS), definitive data are not available.
