EN ISO 12937 Petroleum Products, Water Determination, Coulometric Karl Fischer Titration Method

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 12937 testing. This International standard specifies a method for the direct determination of water in petroleum products boiling below 390°C. It covers the mass ratio range between 0,003% (m/m) and 0,100% (m/m). It does not apply to products containing ketones or residual fuels.

EN ISO 12937 Petroleum Products, Water Determination, Coulometric Karl Fischer Titration Method

This international standard is applicable to the lubrication of base oils. However, precision has not been determined for these materials.

A number of substances and classes of compounds associated with condensation or oxidation-reduction reactions interfere with the determination of water by Karl Fischer titration.

The most common interventions in petroleum products are; Hydrogen sulfide and mercaptan sulfide, however, their mass fractions below 0,003% (m/m) as sulfur do not cause significant interference in the water range of 0,003% (m/m) to 0,100% (m/m) water.

Other commonly found organic sulfur compounds such as sulphides, disulfides, and thiophenes are immiscible. An alternative procedure is provided for the information in Annex B for the direct determination of water in the range of 0,003% (V/V) to 0,100% (V/V) in petroleum products.
