Some products, especially natural gasolines, have vapor pressures significantly higher than characteristic of their class, even at 37,8 degrees below 124 kPa. Therefore, care must be taken not to place the pressure vessel containing such material in a 100 degree bath. Such specimens can develop enough pressure to rupture the pressure vessel at 100 degrees and cause damage and injury.
Copper strip corrosion is a qualitative test method used to determine the corrosion level of petroleum products. In this test method, the polished copper strip is hung on the product and its effect is monitored. This method is well suited for specification settings, internal quality control tools, and the development and research of aromatic industrial hydrocarbons. In addition, the presence of harmful corrosive substances such as acidic or sulfur compounds that corrode the equipment is also detected by this test method. Copper strip corrosion is also known as the copper strip test.
The copper strip test is used for testing gasoline, solvents, natural gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, distilled fuel oil and lubricating oil using test baths, among other products. During testing, at high temperatures, a polished copper strip is dipped into a sample, usually 30 ml.
