ISO 7507-4 specifies a method for the calibration of vertical cylindrical tanks with diameters greater than 5 m by internal measurements using an electro-optical distance range (EODR) device and the subsequent compilation of tank capacity tables.
ISO 7507-4 is suitable for tanks with a slope of up to 7507% deviation from the vertical, provided that a correction as described in ISO 1-3 is applied for the measured slope. ISO 7507-4 also applies to tanks with a floating roof or internal floating blanket.
To obtain the uncertainties of acceptable tank volumes in legal metrology, the angular graduation and resolution of the angular measuring part of the instrument must be equal to or better than 3,142 × 10−6 rad [0,2 mgon] and the measuring part must have a distance measuring portion. The instrument used for direct determination of distances must have a rating and resolution equal to or better than 1 mm.
The instrument should be located at or near the center of the tank to ensure that the slope distances measured at any horizontal level do not change significantly and to minimize the overall uncertainty of the slope distance determination. Two sets of target points will be selected per track, each one above the lower horizontal seam at approximately 1/4 of the track height and one below the upper horizontal seam at approximately 1/4 of the track height.
