EN ISO 12205 Petroleum Products - Test for Determination of Oxidation Stability of Medium Distilled Fuels

The method provides a basis for estimating the storage stability of medium distilled fuels with an initial boiling point above about 175°C and a 90% (V/V) recovery point below 370°C under the conditions of this test. It does not apply to fuels containing residual components or any major component from a non-petroleum source.

The method may not provide an estimate of the amount of insoluble matter that will form on storage in the field over a given period of time. The amount of such insoluble substances is subject to special conditions that are too variable for this test method to accurately predict.

Oxidation is a chemical process that results in the formation of adherent and filterable insoluble substances. Any substance, such as copper or chromium, that catalyzes oxidation reactions will result in the formation of larger amounts of insoluble matter.
