This standard specifies a test method for the determination of polycyclic aromatics (PCA) in the concentration range of 300-5% (m/m) in 1% recovered, unused, unused additive-free lubricant base oils with an atmospheric boiling point of 15°C.
This method may be applicable to PCA concentrations outside this range and to other asphaltene-free petroleum fractions, but the precision has not been determined.
For the purposes of this standard, the terms "% (m/m)" and "% (V/V)" are used to represent mass fraction and volume fraction, respectively.
