SAE J2260 Standard Test for One or More Layers Non-Metallic Fuel System Pipe

This SAE standard provides minimum requirements for non-metallic tubing with one or more layers manufactured for use as a liquid-carrying or vapor-carrying component in fuel systems for gasoline or gasoline-alcohol blends.

When one or more layers of polymer-based compounds are present in the wall of the structure, multilayer structures are primarily intended to improve the permeability resistance to hydrocarbons found in various fuels.

The tube structure may have a straight wall configuration, a curved or corrugated wall, or a combination of both. It may have an innermost layer with enhanced electrical conductivity for use where such a feature is desired.

The improved electrical conductivity can be applied to the entire wall construction if the pipe is a monowall.

Unless otherwise agreed by suppliers and users, this document applies to piping for any part of the fuel system that can operate continuously at temperatures above -40°C and below 90°C and up to a maximum operating gauge pressure of 450 kPa.

The tube can be used at the highest intermittent temperature up to 115°C. This standard may apply to systems operating at higher pressures and/or exposed to higher temperatures.
