Fuel Icing and Pollution Test

Our fuel and fuel frosting testing laboratory is equipped to test in aviation fuel system components subsystems and systems according to SAE ARP 1401 and MIL-F-8615D. In addition, we also test dirty fuels in accordance with MIL-F-8615D and SAE ARP 8615.

Fuel Icing and Pollution Test

Our advanced capabilities enable us to support aviation fuel system component or system testing (including air refueling components and systems) capable of flowing up to 200 gpm at 500 psig. The design of our laboratory enables both recirculation and one-pass testing.

Simply put, water accumulation in aircraft fuel systems becomes ice during altitude changes, and changes in fuel demand can loosen this ice, creating significant hazards for the fuel system and engine components.

EUROLAB repeats these conditions by injecting a known amount of water into the fuel, then cools the mixture to the required temperatures and flows through the test product. The task profile (eg Idle, Takeoff, Cruise, Landing) is then performed at three temperatures, each representing a different physical ice condition with its associated fault mode, and samples are taken throughout the system at specified conditions to verify that the water content is met.

Contaminated Fuel Test

Whether at a commercial airport or the most distant military airport, pollutants can enter the fuel farm and the aircraft fuel system. These contaminants have the potential to cause parts to fail over time, whether by wearing O-rings and gaskets, or by compressing moving parts.

Our test system is designed to test the resistance of fuel system components to failures from these contaminants by injecting a certain amount of pollutant and contaminant mixture into the fuel flow or reservoir and sending this mixture through the test substance. The task profile is then performed and a leak test is performed to determine the performance result. These tests are done on MIL-F-8615D or SAE ARP 8615.
