TS EN 12021 Respiratory Protective Devices - Compressed Gases for Breathing Apparatus

The BS EN 12021 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to explain the properties and test methods of compressed gases used for inhalation in respiratory protective devices. This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 12021 Respiratory protective devices - Compressed gases for breathing apparatus.

TS EN 12021 Respiratory Protective Devices - Compressed Gases for Breathing Apparatus

This standard describes requirements for the quality of gas mixtures or compressed gases for use in respiratory protective devices and in hyper and hypobaric processes. Compressed gases for normal atmospheric pressure as well as hyper and hypobaric pressures fall within the scope of this standard. However, compressed gases used for medical purposes or for aviation applications are outside the scope of this standard.

A compressed air breathing apparatus is a type of respiratory protection equipment that provides breathable air from cylinders containing compressed air. It is generally used by people working in environments where air quality poses an immediate threat to human health and safety. Compressed air breathing apparatus is also known as independent breathing apparatus.

The independent breathing apparatus consists essentially of a hose and a face mask that is connected to the air source carried by the user by a regulator. The air source is compressed air, compressed oxygen, or a chemical that produces oxygen. These devices also protect against most airborne pollutants.

The amount of compressed gas is limited by the rate of consumption. Compressed air is air held under a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. Gases that can be inhaled with the help of a compressor are reduced in volume. Generally, compressed air consists of hydrogen, oxygen and water vapor as in normal air.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN 12021 standard are also provided.
