Respirator Compatibility Tests

TS EN 13274-5 Respiratory Protective Devices - Experimental Methods - Part 5: Climate Conditions

One of the test methods for respiratory protective devices is the climatic conditions test method. To explain this test method, the BS EN 13274-5 standard was developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI). This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 13274-5 Respiratory protective devices - Test methods - Part 5: Climate conditions. This standard describes the temperature, humidity, application time and application method for adaptation of respiratory protective devices to climatic conditions.

TS EN 13274-5 Respiratory Protective Devices - Experimental Methods - Part 5: Climate Conditions

The presence of too many pollutant particles in the inhaled air in terms of variety and density is a condition that causes serious discomfort. These pollutants enter the human body in three different ways. The first way is through the airways with normal breathing. The second way is to swallow them by mouth. The third way is through skin contact. The international system for classification and labeling of chemicals requires the labeling of hazardous substances, compounds and products, using warning pictures and text for physical, health and environmental hazards.

If it is suspected that there are hazardous substances in the air in a working environment, a risk analysis is required by the employer. Afterwards, an effective protection method should be decided according to the results of this analysis. First of all, necessary measures must be taken in the working environment without respiratory protection equipment. However, it is inevitable to use respiratory protective devices at the point where these measures are insufficient.

The fact that these devices are functional and provide the expected benefit depends on a number of tests. In this context, it should be tested that the devices can operate in different climatic conditions.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN 13274-5 standard are also provided.
