TS EN 133 Respiratory Protective Devices - Classification

The BS EN 133 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to explain the criteria for the classification of respiratory protective devices. This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 133 Respiratory protective devices - Classification.

TS EN 133 Respiratory Protective Devices - Classification

This standard explains how respiratory protective devices are kept in a logical grouping in accordance with their basic design.

There are two general classes of respiratory protective equipment based on the principle of providing respiratory protection to the wearer: filtering equipment (these are mainly particle filters, gas filters, combined filters and half-mask filters) and breathing equipment (these are open circuit and closed circuit independent breathing equipment and compressed line respiratory equipment).

Filtration equipment is generally designed to filter and clean air contaminated with dust, vapor, mist, gas and similar solid and liquid particles from air before inhalation. It is not right to use this type of respiratory protection equipment in places where the oxygen level is insufficient (generally in environments with an oxygen concentration below 19 percent) or where there is an unknown concentration of contaminants.

Breathing equipment generally provides breathable air from an independent source, such as compressed air tanks or compressed lines. Especially in environments with oxygen deficiency, this respiratory protection equipment should be used.

It is of utmost importance that any respiratory protection equipment given to employees meets the basic requirements in Directive 89/686 / EEC and carries the CE mark.

Whether filtering equipment or respiratory equipment, both classes of respiratory protection equipment can be used with different facial parts. In other words, it is possible to use with tight fitting apparatus or with loose fitting apparatus.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN 133 standard are also provided.
