TS EN 134 Respiratory Protective Devices - Naming Components

The BS EN 134 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to name components related to respiratory protective devices. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 134 Respiratory protective devices - Name of the components.

TS EN 134 Respiratory Protective Devices - Naming Components

A particular respiratory protective device is validated only if individual components meet the test specification requirements of a standard and when practical performance tests are performed on the component as specified in the standard. If, for any reason, components of a respiratory protective device are not tested, simulation of the device is allowed as long as the respiratory characteristics and weight distribution are similar to this device.

Employees use respiratory protective devices to protect them from airborne contaminants only when it is not possible to apply other hazard control methods. So these devices are not the first measure of choice for respiratory protection in working environments. Generally, respiratory protective devices should be used when: when it is not possible to follow the control hierarchy, such as engineering, administrative controls or substitution, or when emerging or repairing engineering controls, or when emergencies or other temporary situations occur.

In general, a respiratory protection program includes several components. For example, hazard identification and control, exposure assessment, respirator selection, respirator compliance test, training program, review and record keeping, cleaning and disinfection of respirators, and maintenance and repair of respirators.

Respiratory hazards include airborne contaminant particles such as biological pollutants, dusts, mists, fumes and gases, or oxygen deficient environments. A few of them can create a respiratory hazard at the same time.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN 134 standard are also provided.
