TS EN 135 Respiratory Devices - List of Equivalent Terms

Regarding equivalent terms for respiratory protective devices, the BS EN 135 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI). This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 135 Respiratory devices - List of equivalent terms.

Within the framework of the legal regulations in force, employers' obligations include protecting employees against respiratory hazards. At this point, respiratory hazards must be checked. Essentially, respiratory hazards include airborne contaminants such as biological pollutants, dusts, mists, fumes and gases, or oxygen deficient environments. A few of these dangers can also coexist.

A hazard control program must take all necessary steps to protect employees from exposure to airborne contaminants. For this, it is necessary to monitor chemical materials or substances that threaten the health of employees. It should also document what methods are used to control exposure and how these controls are effective.

Meanwhile, well-designed and maintained engineering controls are another preferred method of controlling workers' exposure to hazardous pollutants in the air. These control methods are methods such as mechanical ventilation, protection and isolation of process or work equipment, proper control and use of this equipment, and substitution of less hazardous substances, if possible.

However, some types of atmospheres contain hazardous substance concentrations that immediately endanger the employee. Contaminants at a concentration known as hazardous to health, a potentially hazardous contaminant, an unknown concentration of unknown contaminants, an untested limited area, an oxygen deficient atmosphere, and concentration at which gas or vapor can ignite are considered risky. In this case, devices related to breathing should be used.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN 135 standard are also provided.
