TS EN 142 Respiratory Protective Devices - Mouthpiece Assemblies

The BS EN 142 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to explain the properties, test methods and marking criteria of mouthpiece assemblies for respiratory protective devices. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 142 Respiratory protective devices - Mouthpieces - Rules, experiments, marking. This standard includes mouthpiece assemblies for respiratory protective devices other than escape and diving apparatus.

Today, there are many gas measurement and warning devices used in the market for the simple and fast detection of flammable and toxic gas respiration hazards. In addition, various respiratory protection devices are produced for the purpose of protection from contaminated air, which has low oxygen values ​​or contains various particles such as dust, gas and toxic chemicals.

Such devices are divided into two basic groups depending on whether they operate independently of ambient air conditions. Some of these are independent respirators that operate independently of ambient air. Some of them are filtering devices operating in ambient air. In any case, these devices have a mouthpiece assembly and must be tested to determine whether they perform the desired function.

It is always a matter of concern whether the filters are sufficient in respiratory protective devices used against hazardous substances in working environments. This issue depends entirely on the working environment, weather conditions and working conditions in the workplace. A filter device provides adequate protection only if certain prerequisites are found. If these prerequisites do not exist, independent respiratory protection should be preferred instead of filter respirators.
