TS EN 14387 Respiratory Protective Devices - Gas Filters and Combined Filters

The BS EN 14387 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to explain the properties, test methods and marking criteria of gas filters and combined filters used with respiratory protective devices. This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 14387 Respiratory protective devices - Gas filters and combined filters - Requirements, experiments and marking.

TS EN 14387 Respiratory Protective Devices - Gas Filters and Combined Filters

This standard describes gas filters and combined filters used as components of non-respiratory protective equipment.

Respiratory protection equipment is widely used to protect users against dangerous aerosols, gases or vapors. The biggest limitation of respiratory protection equipment is that the expected protection is only provided with the correct use of the equipment. In addition, the performance of respiratory protection equipment in the workplace is generally much lower than that recommended by standards or manufacturers.

Therefore respiratory protection equipment should only be used as a component of a general prevention and control program. However, in all cases respiratory protection equipment should be implemented within the hierarchy of prevention, control and personal protection. According to this hierarchy, only respiratory protection equipment can be used in cases where it is technically impossible to prevent or control risks and use of respiratory protection equipment is inevitable.

To implement an effective respiratory protection program, it is first necessary to assess the risks and determine where the control is required. In the first step, it is necessary to identify possible professional risks and to measure these risks. In the assessment, all unacceptable risks and employees at risk should be identified and the necessary information should be provided to prevent or control these risks.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN 14387 standard are also provided.
