TS EN 144-2 Respiratory Protective Devices - Gas Cylinder Valves - Part 2: Outlet Connections

The BS EN 144-2 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to explain the properties, test methods and marking criteria of the outlet connections of gas cylinder valves used with respiratory protection devices. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 144-2 Respiratory protective devices - Gas cylinder valves - Part 2: Outlet connections.

This standard describes the screw connection properties between the gas cylinder valve used with oxygen, oxygen / nitrogen or respirators and the pressure reducer, and the dimensions and tolerances to be used for the connections.

Respiratory protective equipment, like all personal protective equipment, aims to protect employees against any physical damage and hazards that occur in the work environment. Situations where respiratory protective equipment will be used are:

• When exposed for a short time or infrequently and other controls are impractical
• While performing other checks
• When an emergency exit is required in an emergency
• When emergency work is required
• When intervention to a temporary control error is required
• When urgent rescue is required by trained personnel
• Generally when other control methods are inadequate

Briefly, respiratory protective equipment is a special type of personal protective equipment that is used to protect employees against inhalation of solid or liquid hazardous particles in the working environment air or against lowering of the oxygen level in the working environment.

Businesses must first try to eliminate hazards at their source. Respiratory protective equipment must be used only after all other reasonably practicable control measures have been taken. So it should be used as a last resort. Because it only protects employees.
