TS EN 144-3 Respiratory Protective Devices - Gas Cylinder Valves - Part 3: Outlet Connections for Nitrox and Oxygen Diving Gases

The BS EN 144-3 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to explain the properties, test methods and marking criteria of nitrox and oxygen diving gas outlet connections of gas cylinder valves used with respiratory protection devices. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) under the following heading: TS EN 144-3 Respiratory protective devices - Gas cylinder valves - Part 3: Outlet connections for nitrox and oxygen diving gases.

This standard describes the screw connection properties and dimensions and tolerances to be used for connections between a gas cylinder valve and a pressure reducer in diving breathing equipment containing respirable nitrox gas with oxygen content above 22 percent.

Nitrox gas used in diving cylinders is a mixture of gas containing oxygen and nitrogen (nitrogen). Essentially, the inhaled air contains roughly 21 percent oxygen and 79 percent nitrogen. In the enriched air nitrox gas contained in the diving tubes, the oxygen rate is slightly higher than the rate in the air.

If the oxygen rate rises to 32 percent, the nitrogen (nitrogen) rate drops to 68 percent. Generally, it is considered suitable for 32-36 percent sportive limits. Higher concentrate oxygen, for example, mixtures of 50 and more, is mostly used in technical diving.

In general, it is preferred to use nitrox in dives up to 40 meters. In diving with nitrox gas, divers feel themselves more fit than normal weather. Also, the time spent at the bottom may be longer.
