The BS EN 12941 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to describe the properties, test methods and marking criteria of the reinforced filter equipment used in combination with a helmet or hood in respiratory protective devices. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) under the following heading: TS EN 12941 Respiratory protective devices - Reinforced filter devices used with helmets or helmets - Features, testing and marking.
The standard in question covers the minimum characteristics of reinforced filter devices with particle or unmixed filters supplied with a gas helmet or hood for respiratory protection. Devices designed for use in conditions where the oxygen deficiency is less than 17 percent are not covered by this standard. In addition, respiratory protective devices designed for use in the event of escape are not covered by this standard.
Respiratory protective equipment aims to protect employees against serious and irreversible health problems and life threatening hazards that employees cannot predict results quickly enough. However, respiratory protective equipment should be a last resort in case of danger.
Enterprises' obligations in this regard are included in Directive 89/656 / EEC. Based on this directive, the Regulation on the Use of Personal Protective Equipment in Workplaces was published in our country. Within the framework of this legal regulation, businesses are obliged to provide their employees with free respiratory protective equipment, to choose suitable respiratory protective equipment depending on the type and size of the risk, to determine the conditions of use of this equipment, to train the employees and to ensure their proper maintenance, cleaning and disinfection.
Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN 12941 standard are also provided.
