As electrical safety requirements may be more stringent for devices connected to the mains or external power sources, they only apply to devices that have an internal battery-operated power supply to light the throat.
It cannot be applied to surgical instruments known by the same generic name, or to flexible laryngoscopes or laryngoscopes designed for surgery, mains powered laryngoscopes, laryngoscopes connected by light-conducting cables to external light sources, or video laryngoscopes designed.
