The BS EN 148-1 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to explain the features of standard threaded connection equipment for face protection parts of respiratory protective devices. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) under the following heading: TS EN 148-1 Respiratory protective devices - Screw threads for face protective parts - Part 1: Standard thread connection.

The standard in question describes the standard threads used in respiratory protective devices and the test devices required to evaluate some requirements. This standard does not apply to diving equipment and positive pressure breathing apparatus.

Gas masks used in respiratory protective devices are quite changed and improved today according to their first examples. These masks, which had simple carbon filters in their first examples, have been replaced by various filters and different types of masks with technology. Along with this development, standards have been designed to bring them under certain norms.

Within this scope, EN 148-1 standard is a standard developed for the filter attachment types of face masks. This standard describes the Charpy (V-notch and U-notch) pendulum impact test method to detect the energy absorbed in the impact test of metallic materials. This test method is also based on ASTM E23-18 standard test methods standard for notched impact testing of metallic materials.

This standard, also published by the International Standards Organization (ISO), consists of three parts:

  • Test method
  • Verification of test machines
  • Preparation of Charpy V-notch test pieces for indirect verification of pendulum impact machines

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN 148-1 standard are also provided.
