TS EN 149 Respiratory Protective Devices - Filtered Half Masks for Protection Against Particles

The BS EN 149 standard was developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI), which describes the properties, test methods and marking criteria of filter half masks for protection against particles used with respiratory protective devices.

This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) under the following heading: TS EN 149 Respiratory protective devices - Filtered half masks for protection against particles - Properties, experiments and marking.

This standard describes the minimum criteria for filtering half masks used as respiratory protective devices against particles, other than those used for escape purposes. In addition, laboratory and practical performance test methods are described to evaluate compliance with these criteria.

A filtering half mask is a type of mask in which the face is completely or largely covered by the filter, or where the main filters form an integral part of the device. According to this standard, half masks are divided into three classes according to their filtering capacity: FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3.

Masks that meet TS EN 149 standard requirements are designed to protect against solid or liquid-based particles and oil-based aerosols. All masks tested according to this standard must provide protection against solid and liquid aerosols. In the previous version of the standard it only allowed testing against solid particles.

FFP1 filters (protection factor 4) filter at least 80 percent of airborne particles, FFP2 filters (protection factor 10) filter at least 94 percent of airborne particles, and FFP3 filters (protection factor 20) filter at least 98 percent of airborne particles.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN 149 standard are also provided.
