Within the scope of anesthetic and respiratory equipment, the ISO 15001 standard has been developed by the International Organization for Standards (ISO) to explain oxygen compatibility requirements and test methods. This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 15001 Anesthetic and respiratory equipment - Compatibility with oxygen.
The international standard in question describes the requirements for oxygen compatibility of materials, components and equipment for anesthetic and respiratory applications, under normal conditions or under a gas pressure of more than 50 kilos of Pascal, in the event of a single fault.
It also provides guidelines for conducting a risk analysis based on available data on oxygen compatibility. This risk analysis includes the selection of materials and components and the toxicity of combustion or decomposition products.
Compatibility features addressed by this standard include cleaning, fire resistance and toxicity of combustion or decomposition products in the design, production, maintenance and disposal processes.
The ISO 15001 standard covers medical gas pipeline systems, pressure regulators, terminal units, medical supply units, flexible connections, flow measuring devices, anesthetic workstations and lung ventilators, as well as anesthetic and respiratory devices.
Essentially, standardization studies in the field of anesthetics and respirators include a wide range of standards related to anesthetic machines, lung ventilators, and medical gas supply and respiratory systems.
Reliable equipment is required for patient safety and quality of care in the field of anesthesia and respiratory medicine. For this reason, oxygen compatibility tests given by advanced laboratories are important.
