TS EN ISO 18777 Portable Liquid Oxygen Systems For Medical Use

The ISO 18777 standard has been developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO) to explain the general characteristics and test methods of portable liquid oxygen systems used for medical purposes. This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 18777 Portable liquid oxygen systems for medical use - Specific features.

This standard describes the criteria for the safety and required performance of portable liquid oxygen systems used as a feed source for oxygen therapy.

This international standard describes the requirements for the safety and basic performance of portable liquid oxygen systems used as a source of supply for oxygen therapy. This equipment generally consists of two parts: a portable unit to be carried by the patient or with the patient during use, and a container used to fill this unit.

In general, this equipment is used in healthcare facilities and home care applications. This equipment can also be used without professional supervision. Liquid oxygen containers used as a supply source for oxygen pipeline systems are outside the scope of this standard.

Liquid oxygen is produced in air separation plants. Essentially, the air is liquefied and decomposed into oxygen, nitrogen and argon. When oxygen is in liquid state, it is blue, odorless and actively promoting combustion. When used with evaporation equipment, it is stored in insulated and vacuum tanks, which meet several days of demand.

In the medical field, liquid oxygen systems are used to breathe oxygen instead of air when there is a decrease in lung function or when respiratory disorders or when more oxygen is needed in the bloodstream.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN ISO 18777 standard are also provided.
