TS EN ISO 23328-1 Inhalation System Filters for Respiratory and Anesthetic Use - Part 1: Salt Test Method to Evaluate Filtration Performance

The BS EN 23328-1 standard, which describes the salt test method used to evaluate the filtration performance of the respiratory system filters used in respiratory and anesthetic devices, was developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI).

TS EN ISO 23328-1 Inhalation System Filters for Respiratory and Anesthetic Use - Part 1: Salt Test Method to Evaluate Filtration Performance

This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 23328-1 Respiratory system filters for anesthesia and respiratory use - Part 1: Salt test method for evaluating filtering performance. This standard was later published by the International Standards Organization (ISO).

This standard describes the method of loading test of sodium chloride particles in short-term air to evaluate the filtering performance of respiratory system filters designed to filter the inhaled gases.

TS EN ISO 23328-1 standard is valid for filters used with clinical respiratory system. It does not cover other filter types. For example, this standard does not apply to filters designed to protect vacuum sources or gas sample lines, filter compressed gases, or protect test equipment for physiological breathing measurements. Such filtering is handled in the TS EN ISO 23328-2 standard.

Respiratory filters are used to reduce the number of particles, including microorganisms in carbon dioxide gases that return with oxygen supplied to patients. These filters are exposed to various moisture levels during clinical use. To simulate this situation, these filters are exposed to humidified air. This type of exposure affects the filter's performance. During the test, sodium chloride particles ranging from 0,1 to 0,3 microns are detected.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN ISO 23328-1 standard are also provided.
