TS EN ISO 5356-1 Anesthesia and Respiratory Equipment - Conical Connection Elements - Part 1: Cones and Sockets

The BS EN 5356-1 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to explain the properties and testing methods of cones and sockets with conical connectors within the scope of anesthetic and respiratory equipment.

TS EN ISO 5356-1 Anesthesia and Respiratory Equipment - Conical Connection Elements - Part 1: Cones and Sockets

This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 5356-1 Anesthesia and respiratory equipment - Conical fittings - Part 1: Cones and sockets. This standard was later published by the International Standards Organization (ISO).

This international standard describes the dimensions and calibrations of cones and sockets designed for the connection of anesthesia and breathing apparatus. For example, in respiratory systems, such as anesthetic gas discharge system and vaporizers. Cones and sockets are not considered devices by themselves.

Essentially, the anesthetic machine is not an anesthetic machine. It is an equipment with very complex and integrated electronic systems and is often referred to as anesthesia workstations. This equipment has three basic components: gas mixing and delivery system, anesthetic breathing system and a ventilator.

Anesthetic equipment is connected to a purified gas source. These gases generally contain oxygen and nitrous oxide, and this equipment contains compressed air. Gases are mixed in a special device that provides the right concentrations and limits the minimum amount of oxygen. This gas mixture is placed in a device called evaporator. The anesthetic respiratory system determines the flow rate of the gas mixture.

The ventilator is a respiratory device programmed for rhythmic inflation and deflation of the lungs. During this process, gas flow, oxygen concentration, anesthetic agent concentration, gas amount per breath and breath rate per minute are adjusted.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN ISO 5356-1 standard are also provided.
