TS EN ISO 5361 Anesthesia and Respiratory Equipment - Trachea Tubes and Connection Elements

The BS EN 5361 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to describe the properties and test methods of tracheal tubes and fittings, which are an anesthetic, respiratory and reanimation equipment.

This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 5361 Anesthesia and respiratory equipment - Trachea tubes and fittings. This standard was later published by the International Standards Organization (ISO).

The TS EN ISO 5361 standard describes the basic performance and safety requirements for various tracheal tubes and their fittings. Trachea tubes with metal or plastic reinforced walls are covered by this international standard, as they are widely used and have similar basic requirements, as are tracheal tubes with an enlargement zone and other tracheal tubes designed for special applications. Meanwhile, trachea tubes designed for use with flammable anesthetic gases or active substances, laser or electrosurgical instruments are not covered by this standard.

The development of tracheal tubes is closely related to the developments in surgery and anesthesia. The design of these tubes, which perform many functions such as minimizing aspiration, isolating the lung and providing an open surgical area during general anesthesia, is increasingly diverse and comfortable in use.

Briefly, a tracheotomy is a surgical procedure in which a plastic tube is placed in the neck by opening a hole through the trachea, thereby ensuring continuous airway opening. This method is applied to patients in a wide variety of situations and is generally a safe method.
