TS EN ISO 5366 Anesthesia and Respiratory Equipment - Tracheostomy Tubes and Fittings

The BS EN 5366 standard has been developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to describe tracheostomy tubes and fittings, an important part of anesthesia, respiratory and reanimation equipment, test methods and marking criteria.

TS EN ISO 5366 Anesthesia and Respiratory Equipment - Tracheostomy Tubes and Fittings

This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 5366 Anesthesia and respiratory equipment - Tracheostomy tubes and fittings. This standard was later published by the International Standards Organization (ISO).

This standard describes requirements for adult and pediatric tracheostomy tubes and connectors made of plastic materials or rubber with an internal diameter of 6,5 mm or more. These tubes are generally designed for people who need anesthesia, artificial ventilation, or other respiratory support.

Tracheostomy tubes are used to facilitate the application of positive pressure ventilation. In this way, people who never breathe or have difficulty breathing are provided with respiratory support until this problem is treated to receive oxygen. These tubes are produced in various sizes and specifications.

It is very important to perform safety tests for tracheostomy tubes and fittings and to use appropriate equipment for patients. These tubes are curved tubes placed in the neck and trachea by drilling holes. Different types of tracheostomy tubes are used for different purposes.

While tracheostomy tubes were used only as an emergency method in upper airway obstruction, today, it has also started to be used for mechanical ventilation, chronic respiratory failure, failure of airway protective reflexes and sleep apnea. In short, this equipment provides an air passage to assist breathing when the usual airway is blocked in some way.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN ISO 5366 standard are also provided.
