TS EN ISO 7376 Anesthesia and Respiratory Equipment - Laryngoscopes for Tracheal Intubation

The BS EN ISO 7376 standard, which describes laryngoscopes for tracheal intubation, an anesthetic and respiratory equipment, was developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI). This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 7376 Anesthesia and respiratory equipment - Laryngoscopes for tracheal intubation. This standard was later published by the International Standards Organization (ISO).

This standard covers general requirements for laryngoscopes used for intubation. It also describes the critical dimensions of the handle and lamp of hook-type laryngoscopes and the interchangeability of the blades and handles.

This international standard describes requirements for similar procedures, including anesthesia, intensive care, and emergency care requirements, for laryngoscopes, a device used for tube insertion in the throat.

This standard also provides requirements for reusable and disposable laryngoscope blades and handles. Laryngoscopes can be in one-piece handle and blade structure. Or it may have a removable blade and handle. There may also be a light source on the throat for lighting during use.

This international standard describes general conditions for laryngoscopes and specifies critical dimensions for the handle and lamp of hook-type laryngoscopes. It also refers to the interchangeability of knives and handles.

This standard applies only to devices with a battery-powered internal power supply to illuminate the throat, as electrical safety requirements will be stricter for devices connected to mains or external power supplies. In the annexes of the mentioned standard, laryngoscope test methods are explained.
