TS EN ISO 8836 Respiratory Catheter Used in Respiratory System

BS EN 8836 standard, which describes the properties and test methods of the suction catheters used in the respiratory tract within the scope of respiratory protective devices, was developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI). This standard was published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 8836 Suction catheters used in the respiratory tract. This standard was later published by the International Standards Organization (ISO).

TS EN ISO 8836 Respiratory Catheter Used in Respiratory System

This standard describes criteria for all types of suction catheters, including closed suction catheters made of flexible materials that are designed to be used for respiratory suction. Suction catheters intended for use with flammable anesthetic gases or substances, lasers or electrosurgical equipment are not covered by this standard.

The suction catheter is a medical device used to remove body secretions such as mucus or saliva from the upper airway. One end of the catheter is securely attached to an aspirator or collection vessel, the other end is placed directly into the trachea tube to remove secretions. There are a wide variety of aspiration catheters.

The ideal catheter is a catheter that effectively performs suction and minimizes tissue trauma. Specific features of the catheters are the material from which they are made, friction resistance, length and diameter and shape. The diameter of the suction catheter is very important. A very large catheter can cause problems by discharging gases far from the end of the airway.

The upper airway heats, cleans and moistens the inhaled air. The trach pipe bypasses these mechanisms and the air moving through the tube becomes cooler and drier. In this case, the body produces more mucus. Suction catheters are therefore needed.

Within the scope of breathing apparatus compatibility tests carried out by our organization EUROLAB, testing services in accordance with TS EN ISO 8836 standard are also provided.
